Past Fantasy Outlooks
Juolevi made his NHL debut in the playoffs, playing once against the Wild in the qualifying round. Regardless of his lack of experience, Juolevi is expected to be an NHL player in 2020-21. The Finn racked up 25 points in 45 games with AHL Utica last year, showing a modest scoring touch. The fifth overall pick from 2016, Juolevi will likely start on the third pairing. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect Juolevi to put up Quinn Hughes-esque numbers in his rookie year -- a 20-point pace would be a reasonably positive showing. Injuries have plagued Juolevi at lower levels, so he's also no lock to stay healthy.
Juolevi, the fifth overall selection from 2016, played just 18 games last season -- and all of them came at the AHL level. The D-man recorded a goal and 12 assists before suffering a knee injury that prematurely ended his first professional campaign. Heading into the 2019-20 season, Juolevi figures to contend for a role with the Canucks but may never develop into the dominant blue-line presence many thought he would become at the NHL level. While he certainly is an intriguing asset in dynasty formats, that's about the only scenario we can think of where Juolevi is worth owning.
Juolevi may never be that dominant defenseman everyone thought he'd be following an impressive performance at the World Juniors, but there's still a lot to like about his game. The former first-round pick scored 19 points in 38 games on the top team in a Finnish league last season and earned praise from the coaching staff for his improvements. Unfortunately, Juolevi is coming off back surgery, and even though he's expected to be healthy by training camp, the fading prospect may face a very tough first year as he recovers and acclimates himself to the pros in North America. To ensure he gets enough playing time to develop, especially on the defensive side of the puck, it's likely Juolevi spends most of the 2018-19 season in the AHL.
