Wallin (concussions) is likely to retire, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
ANALYSIS
Wallin suffered four concussions last season while playing in Sweden and is awaiting an MRI result before deciding his future. However, the 37-year-old has been advised by doctors to hang up the skates. During his 10 years in the NHL, Wallin totaled 79 points, but the defenseman will be most remembered for winning the Stanley Cup while playing for Carolina in 2006.

Wallin is not a defenseman that will help you win fantasy championships, but the same cannot be said for the Sharks. This clutch veteran rearguard won a Stanley Cup with the Hurricanes in 2006, and San Jose probably could afford more winners like him on the squad. Wallin should help out in penalty killing situations and delivering hits, but he's one to avoid in fantasy circles thanks to limited offensive potential.
Considering Wallin’s 10 points from last season tied a career high, we don’t anticipate owners fighting over his services in draft rooms. Instead, he’s somewhat reliable as a stay-at-home defenseman for the Canes.
For fantasy purposes, Wallin is a nonentity. He doesn't score goals; he doesn't feed goal-scorers; and he doesn't rack up penalty minutes. Unless you participate in a stay-at-home-defensemen-only league, you have no reason to put him on your draft list.
Wallin doesn't deserve serious consideration in even deep fantasy leagues, as he's a stay-at-home defenseman who has just two power play points in his six-year NHL career.
Wallin is on the Carolina roster for his defense, not for his scoring. He doesn't even add a significant amount of sin bin time. There is no reason to add him to your fantasy roster.
Wallin isn't enough of an offensive force to merit a selection in your draft. He's a solid defender with good size, but for his career, only 1 in 25 of his shots finds the net. You should pass.
