Matt Tennyson

Tennyson is one of the Sabres' many minor-league journeymen who got a taste of NHL action due to a slew of injuries to the team's defensemen, appearing in 15 games but failing to register a single point to go along with a minus-8 rating in 2017-18. Through 120 career games, Tennyson's scored just three goals and 20 points, and lacking the size to be a shutdown defenseman, he hasn't been able to lock down a full-time spot in the NHL. He enters the final year of his contract and will play a depth role for the Sabres with a contract extension unlikely to be tendered.

Tennyson finds himself in Buffalo after signing a two-year pact at the outset of free agency. The Western Michigan University product has been associated with the Sharks, Hurricanes and now Sabres since Team Teal first utilized him in the AHL during the 2011-12 campaign. It's remarkable that he's still drawing interest to this day, still defying the odds as an undrafted free agent. However, Tennyson's clearly an organizational depth player -- 20 points in 105 career contests simply doesn't cut the mustard in the fantasy landscape.

Tennyson made his NHL debut last season. He was called up several times, but only saw ice in four games. Over that stretch, he recorded two assists, a plus-2 rating, two penalty minutes and eight shots. Tennyson has a good-sie frame and decent potential, but it's hard to predict what kind of ice time Tennyson will get and where. We expect him to be back in the A, but on the short list for injury replacement once again. Avoid him from a fantasy perspective.
