Lane Hutson

20-Year-Old DefensemanD
2024 Fantasy Outlook
Hutson made his NHL debut last season, suiting up in the final two games of the regular season in which he recorded two assists, three shots and one hit while averaging 22:43 of ice time. Looking ahead to the upcoming campaign, the 20-year-old blueliner should be a full-time roster player for the Habs and could even see time with the No. 2 power-play unit. During his two-year stint at Boston University, the Michigan-born defenseman put his offensive upside on full display with 30 goals and 67 helpers in 77 outings. If he can translate that to the NHL level, Hutson could be in the mix for a rookie campaign similar to that of New York's Adam Fox, who notched eight goals and 34 helpers in 70 appearances back in 2019-20. Contributes two assists in win
DMontreal Canadiens
October 12, 2024
Hutson had two assists, including one on the power play, and two PIM in Saturday's 4-1 win over Ottawa.
ANALYSIS
Hutson registered the secondary helper on Emil Heineman's first-period power-play marker as well as the primary assist on Alex Newhook's strike early in the third period for Montreal's third goal. The rookie defenseman, who has four points in three games, was not initially credited with his first assist of the game before the scoring play was revised after the contest.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Strong contender for roster spot
DMontreal Canadiens
September 15, 2024
Arpon Basu of The Athletic believes Hutson will start the 2024-25 campaign on the NHL roster.
ANALYSIS
Hutson made a positive impression while playing against other prospects for two games Sept 14/15 ahead of the start of training camp, and he already seemed to be in a good position after a strong 2023-24 campaign with Boston University in which he had 15 goals and 49 points in 38 contests followed by the young defenseman providing two assists across two appearances with Montreal. While the 20-year-old is still not guaranteed a roster spot, there is an opening for him to not only play for the Canadiens but also to receive a top-four role and some power-play ice time. In that scenario, he might do enough offensively to be one of this season's top rookie defensemen.
