Landon Ferraro

After suffering an ACL injury in December while playing for AHL Chicago, Ferraro was sidelined for the season. The 25-year-old forward posted 15 points in 22 minor-league games before his injury. Ferraro doesn't have much NHL experience, having only one season with more than 10 big-league games -- that was the 2015-16 season, when he played 58 games and recorded 10 points. He'll have to prove himself in the preseason, and if he is unable to, he'll have a spot on the AHL's Iowa Wild.

Ferraro filled in for a couple games in Detroit in 2013-14, but made his mark in Grand Rapids with 31 points in 70 games. He signed another two-way deal in the offseason, so he should start the year in the AHL once again.

Ferraro had a great season with the Grand Rapids Griffins, especially in the playoffs where he scored 16 points in 24 games. He has shown the ability to step up his game when the stakes are raised, and has played well at every level he's been at. He should get a call-up or two this season and should be on the Wings' roster in the next year or two.

Ferraro will likely spend one more season with Red Deer (WHL) before heading to Grand Rapids (AHL). He missed 20 games with a knee injury last season, ultimately falling short of the numbers he posted in his first junior season in 2008-09. Ferraro will attempt to make Canada's world junior team next time around while improving his strength and conditioning this summer before starting his final junior campaign. It appears as though he's still two full seasons away from being on the radar for a promotion to Detroit. For those in dynasty leagues, he remains an intriguing talent with top-end potential.

The speedy son of former 400-goal scorer Ray Ferraro, the 18-year-old was selected in the first round by the Red Wings in the 2009 draft. He'll play the 2009-10 season with his junior team at Red Deer, but Ferraro projects as an eventual second-line player capable of being a reliable source of offense as a scorer and as a distributor. While he makes his ascent through the minors, Ferraro needs to put muscle on his frame in order to handle the physical style of play at the NHL level.
