Florek offers good size at 6-foot-4 and 200 pounds, but after failing to stick around with the Bruins for a significant portion of last season, it’s unlikely he emerges as a forward option on a deeper Islanders squad in 2015-16. The Northern Michigan product, who was named a finalist for CCHA’s Best Defensive Forward Award and named to the CCHA’s Second Team this past season, finished up the 2011-12 season with AHL Providence, recording two goals and four points in eight games. He projects as a depth forward for the B’s organization, but he’d have to leapfrog a handful of other contenders to make any sort of impact this season.
