Justin Barron

Justin Barron

23-Year-Old DefensemanD
Montreal Canadiens
2024 Fantasy Outlook
After logging 48 NHL games last season, Barron is unlikely to find minutes any easier to come by this year. There will be tough competition on the Canadiens' blue line, with Arber Xhekaj and Jayden Struble all looking for additional ice time. For his part, Barron managed seven goals and six helpers in those 48 outings while averaging 18:38 of ice time. While Barron may have limited fantasy value this season due to his lack of a clear role, his age makes him an intriguing long-term option in dynasty and keeper formats. Read Past Outlooks

Filling part-time role
DMontreal Canadiens
December 8, 2024
Barron has played in just five of the Canadiens' 16 games since the start of November after sitting out Saturday's 4-2 loss to the Capitals.
ANALYSIS
Barron appears to be on the outside looking in for now. Jayden Struble and Arber Xhekaj are ahead of him on the depth chart, though Barron tends to draw in whenever there's an injury concern. Barron has one goal, 14 shots on net, 15 hits, 15 blocked shots, eight PIM and a minus-6 rating through 13 appearances this season.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2023
2022
The 21-year-old Barron gained a more significant role as the injuries piled up and Montreal's season got away from them. He played pretty well, although it didn't result in much offensive production (four goals, 15 points in 39 games). He averaged 16:18 of ice time per game, including 58 seconds per contest with the man advantage. Barron's style of play isn't conducive to fantasy production, but he's almost certainly ensured a full-time gig this season, which is a pretty big deal given his youth.
The No. 25 overall selection by the Avalanche in 2020, Barron was shipped to Montreal at the trade deadline in the deal which brought Arturri Lehkonen to Colorado last season. Considering the Avalanche went on to win the Stanley Cup, it's safe to say they were happy with the end result. From Montreal's standpoint, Barron is a 20-year-old stay-at-home defender that plays a physical style, but he doesn't project to offer much from an offensive standpoint. You can probably do better on draft day, even in keeper/dynasty formats.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
May return from injury Monday
DMontreal Canadiens
March 13, 2023
Barron, who has been out with an upper-body injury, could return to action versus Colorado on Monday, per Arpon Basu of The Athletic.
ANALYSIS
Barron has been sidelined for the last five games due to his upper-body issue. Prior to his absence, the 21-year-old blueliner was producing well offensively with one goal, two assists and six shots in his last five contests. If Barron is given the all-clear, he could bump Chris Wideman from the lineup.
