Illness
December 23, 2014
Crabb (illness) tested positive for the mumps Monday, ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Will Rangers forward Lee Stempniak also diagnosed with the mumps, that makes 18 players who have acquired the virus at some point this season. Crabb, who has spent the entire season in the AHL, is the first known player at that league level to have picked up the mumps, prompting the Hartford affiliate to go on high alert. Crabb will remain away from the team until doctors determine he's no longer contagious.

Crabb played 26 games with the Capitals last season, and was largely irrelevant in terms of fantasy production, with just two goals and a minus-1 rating. He likely won't dress every game in 2013-14 for Florida, and won't be worth picking up outside the deepest of leagues.
Crabb is a fan and coach fave who brought energy and excitement to 48 games with the Leafs last season. He’s in a contract year and at 28, he knows his window of opportunity in the NHL is quickly closing. He’ll come into camp strong but will be forced into a battle with newcomer Matt Frattin and injured pugilist Colton Orr for the role of fourth line right winger. He’ll likely end up starting the season on the farm.
Crabb is a journeyman forward whose mostly toiled in the AHL, not the NHL. He can score as witnessed by his 24 goals and53 points in 79 games with the Thrashers' AHL affiliate last season. But at 27, he's probably destined to ride buses -- not planes -- for the remainder of his career.
