With Thomas Greiss retired, it's Hofer's turn to fill the backup role behind Jordan Binnington. However, that opportunity could easily become a chance to start if Binnington's numbers continue to slide. Hofer went 27-15-5 with a 2.50 GAA and a .921 save percentage over 47 games with AHL Springfield last season, so it's pretty clear that he's ready for a larger NHL role going forward, giving him draft-day fantasy appeal in deeper formats. If he's able to steal the starting job away from Binnington, Hofer would represent a significant value pick in this year's drafts.
