Jesse Joensuu

Joensuu is a defensive player and has scored six goals and nine points in 42 games last season. The Isles do seem to like him, but there is just a good a chance that he starts the season in the AHL as there is in the NHL. Joensuu is a checking winger and likely won't see many top-6 minutes.

Joensuu rode the AHL-NHL shuttle quite a few times last season and 2011-12 promises to be the same way. How much he plays for the Islanders will depend upon how strong a training camp he has, but also how many of the Isles more talented young players make the roster.

Joensuu, a second-round pick in 2006, has ridden the Bridgeport shuttle over the past couple of seasons and has managed to score two goals in 18 games. It's unlikely that anything will change this season as Joensuu is likely to start the season once again in Bridgeport and be called up once injuries or his good play warrant it. There's an offensive future here, but he's not even 23 yet and top-six minutes are not in his near future.

Joensuu potted 20 goals in his rookie campaign in the AHL. He also made his NHL debut in 2008-09, netting three points in seven games for the Isles and showed some signs as to why the team feels he has the ability to play on a scoring line at the NHL level. He probably needs at least one more season of development with the Sound Tigers, but he should be one of the first names called up when injuries befall the club.

Joennsuu comes to North America after four seasons in the Finnish League. Expect him to play with Bridgeport for most of 2008-09, but he's worth keeping an eye on as the Isles feel he has the skill set to be a top-six forward in the NHL.

Joensuu is just 19 years old, so he's few years away from having any impact fantasy-wise. He has played in the Finnish League the last three years.

The Islanders have not yet announced their plans for their second round draft pick from the 2006 draft. He will likely remain in his native Finnish league.
