Jon Litterine details how he believes the first round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft would unfold now with the benefit of hindsight.
2019 Fantasy Outlook
The 21-year-old Russian has played a majority of his hockey in North America over the last two seasons, first in the QMJHL and then in the AHL last year. He played 14 games with Lehigh Valley in 2018-19, scoring six goals and 10 points over that span. Rubtsov is known as a bit of a defensive specialist, so he may never develop into a top-six forward at the NHL level, but he should become a reliable depth center for the Flyers down the road. Heading into 2019-20, the 2016 first-round pick's biggest problem is the talent ahead of him on the depth chart. Philadelphia currently has a plethora of options down the middle, so Rubtsov may have to wait a year or two for his chance to earn a full-time role with the big club.
