Meyer recorded 4 goals and 11 assists for 15 points in 64 games for the New York Islanders last year. Although he seems to have established himself as a full time NHL player, Meyer is a depth defenseman at best and should not be targetted unless you are in a deep league and in need of a 4th of 5th defenseman.
Meyer has not played since January 5, 2008 as a groin injury ended his 2008-09 season early. His fantasy value was limited even before the injury as he recorded points in only six of 27 games and owned a minus-19 rating. Until he starts to show he is capable of production on a consistent basis, there is no need to Meyer under consideration.
Meyer still can't seem to find the offensive groove from his 2005-06 rookie season when he tallied 27 points (16 on the power play) in 57 games. The Islanders are not expected to give him a huge role offensively in the 2008-09 season, so there's no need to have him under consideration for your fantasy leagues at this point.
Meyer tallied 27 points in 57 games in 2005-06. Due to back and hand injuries in 2006-07, he laced up the skates for just 60 games, scoring eight points. The Isles would like to see more from him offensively, but he'll need to have a strong camp if he's going to get a big role with the team this year.
With 27 points in 57 games, Meyer had a good rookie season. With Kim Johnsson gone, Meyer could see more power play time. He isn't a bad guy to take a flier on late in your draft.
