King was one of several trade-deadline acquisitions by Montreal last spring, but he scored just one goal in 17 games for the Habs. The motivation was to bring in a physical player who could also provide some offense to the fourth line, however, the Habs learned the slow-footed King couldn't keep up with his new teammates. He often lagged behind on rushes and was late on the forecheck. The Habs chose not to bring him back for 2017-18, making King an unrestricted free agent.
