Boogaard moves to the Big Apple after five seasons with the Wild. This past offseason the Rangers secured Boogaard's services with a four-year contract. Apparently the team wants an enforcer long-term, and Boogaard fits that bill. He is not quick enough to deliver mass amounts of hits, but he does make his contact count. Expect heavy penalty minutes for the 6-foot-7 this season, with nothing else to offer as it applies to fantasy hockey.
Boogaard suited up in just 51 games last year for the Wild, but still managed to spend 87 minutes in the penalty box. He offers nothing beyond his PIMs, though he could see a big jump this year if he can see more of the ice with a new coaching staff in place for the Wild.
Boogaard is arguably the most feared punisher in the entire league. Unfortunately, in 2007-08, the left winger's enormous stature proved to be more a hindrance than an asset as his back failed him, resulting in 44 missed games. Despite the limited time, the 6-foot-7 giant still managed 74 penalty minutes. Boogaard is certainly exciting to watch but is heavily restricted on offense.
Boogaard is one of the better fighters in the NHL, but he only has value for penalty minutes and adds little else.
His only value is as a goon and he'll try to make the roster as the Wild's enforcer, although Minnesota may go without one this season.
