Conacher was released from his PTO by Carolina on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Conacher has an AHL contract with Chicago and will play for the Wolves in the 2023-24 season. He last played in the NHL during the 2019-20 campaign and at the age of 33, playing once again at the top level seems unlikely.

Conacher is stuck in that queasy space between the NHL and AHL. He delivers at a point-per-game pace when he's in the minors, but just can't replicate the production in the NHL. To be fair, Conacher is a little guy who needs to be in the top six to deliver, and there's no way he's getting that chance in Tampa (or anywhere else for that matter). Conacher turns 29 in December and he'll even be hard-pressed to earn a fourth-line role.
Remember when Conacher looked like he could be a top line winger when he was paired with Steven Stamkos? My how times have changed - Conacher is now with his fourth team in four years and has yet to score double-digit goals in a season. He looks to begin his Islanders career on the fourth line but all may not be lost. The Isles will likely be holding an open competition to see who should play on the top line opposite John Tavares and Kyle Okposo and although Conacher is a long shot, he will have an opportunity to audition for the role.
Conacher looked like a future star in Tampa Bay before being dealt to the Senators in March in exchange for goalie Ben Bishop. The 23-year-old was leading the NHL in rookie scoring, but understandably faded after joining the struggling Senators offense. His future is still bright, but the additions of Clarke MacArthur and Bobby Ryan mean the Senators will probably use Conacher in the bottom six, at least to start the year. He still finished the 2013 regular season with 24 points in 35 games. Even though he probably won't put up those kind of numbers again, Conacher should be a good option in deeper leagues, since he will probably be undervalued, and has shown that he does possess a scoring touch.
Is Conacher the next Mighty Mite? Probably not -- like St. Louis, he's small, but his feet are 10 times heavier. However, he is smart, talented and absolutely fearless, and that combo earned him the AHL rookie of the year and MVP last year. He's a huge sleeper this season -- we think he wins a job on the Bolts' third line, and with Ryan Malone's propensity for injury, there's a solid shot for him to see time on the second line. Keep him in mind in your later rounds.
