Cohen Dealt to Bruins
DBoston Bruins  Free Agent
November 29, 2010
The Bruins have acquired Cohen from the Avalanche in exchange for Matt Hunwick, the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Cohen, who will be assigned to AHL Providence, has good size and could grow into an offensive blueliner for the B's, in time. In the short term, the deal clears Hunwick's salary off the books (the B's need some cap space) while bolstering the team's young talent base.

Cohen spent most of the 2012-13 season with AHL Providence, where he racked up 14 points in 43 games. The Bruins are pretty deep along their blue line, so the 6-foot-2 215-pound Cohen needs a break or two in his favor to earn a promotion this coming season.
Cohen is one of a slew of B’s depth blueliners jousting for positioning behind the big club’s top six. He recorded four goals and 15 points for AHL Providence this past season and at 6-2, 200 pounds he has a size advantage over some of the team’s other depth blue line options.
Cohen has good size and could grow into an offensive blueliner for the B's, in time. For now, he's among a handful of defenseman that the team has stockpiled in the hopes of finding an NHL gem or two.
Cohen, who signed an entry-level contract with Colorado in April, will play in the AHL with the Lake Erie Monsters this season. His fantasy value is high but patience will be required; he needs to grow into the pro game.
Cohen will return to the collegiate level this upcoming season to play for Boston University. Cohen is thought to be at least another year or two away from landing in the NHL. A very good combination of size and offensive ability, Cohen scored 32 points (8G, 24A) in 43 games for Boston U last season. He was also named the Most Outstanding Player at this year's NCAA Frozen Four Tournament.
Cohen is an offensive-defenseman who reads the game exceptionally well. In 2006-07, he scored 60 points (13G, 47A) in 53 games for the Lincoln Stars of the USHL. However, the defensive aspect of his game still needs work. He has a ways to go before he makes it to the NHL, but when he does - watch out.
Cohen could be another Bryan Berard, albeit a bigger version. He's pure offense from the back end -- oh, that one-timer is divine and his passing is sweet, too. And then there's the grace of his skating. Sounds perfect, don't you think? Not so fast. For all the talent he brings, he also carries a cockiness that has been described by many as a 'bad attitude'. Just remember Bryan Berard's plus-minus and his defensive liabilities -- Cohen has those, too. Poolies won't care about those things but you'll have to be patient with this guy. He's not likely to be in the NHL until 2012-2013 -- be our guest if you care to take up a keeper spot for that long. Just remember his name, that's all for now.
