ANALYSIS
Thomas last saw action in the NHL back in 2015-16 when he made one appearance for the Coyotes. After two years playing overseas, the 2010 second-round pick is unlikely to make his way back to North America and figures to eventually retire having played in 27 NHL games for the Rangers, Canadiens and Coyotes in which he garnered one goal and two assists. Thomas also played in six games for Canada in the 2018 Olympics when NHL players were unavailable.

Thomas had 35 points (19 goals, 16 assists) for the Connecticut Whale, the Rangers' affiliate in the AHL. A former second-round pick, Thomas was dealt to Montreal for another young prospect, Danny Kristo. Both teams appear to moving away from once highly-regarded prospects. Thomas is another in a long line of undersized, but highly-skilled players with elite scoring potential. The question is if he can add enough strength to be successful at the NHL level. He'll re-start his career with Hamilton of the AHL.
Thomas was the first Ontario Hockey League player to tally 95 goals in two seasons, and is the first Rangers' minor leaguer to score 50 goals in a season since Ryan Callahan. The 18-year-old, second-round draft pick will likely open the 2012-13 season in the minors, but is certainly a player to keep an eye on given the scoring prowess he's shown in his young career.
Another son of a former NHLer, Thomas has impressed with his shot and speed, scoring in every game in this summer's developmental camp. He'll get a good look at in training camp but it's believed he'll benefit from one more year in juniors.
Thomas was the Rangers’ second-round selection in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. The 18-year-old right winger is only 5-foot-9 but he knows how to drop the puck in the net. Last season, he led Oshawa (OHL) with 41 goals. He’ll likely spend a few seasons in the junior leagues before he has any impact in the NHL.
