Chris Wideman

Playing his first NHL games since the 2018-19 season, which he split between Ottawa, Edmonton, and Florida, Wideman became an important player for a Montreal team which posted the worst record in the league last year. He posted 27 points, including 12 with the man advantage, in 64 games, although Wideman's minus-25 rating was indicative of just how poorly the Canadiens played as a team. The Habs made virtually no defensive improvements this offseason, making it highly likely Wideman will return to the same role he saw a season ago. That might be enough for late-round fantasy value in standard formats, but the plus-minus rating again figures to be a problem.

Wideman is coming off a hamstring injury that limited him to 16 games in 2017-18. When healthy, the American rearguard is far from a consistent point producer, having managed a total of 38 points over three seasons in Ottawa. As a result, the 28-year-old doesn't figure to help from a fantasy perspective -- even if he returns with a clean bill of health. Consider him a waiver-wire option if you happen to run into injury problems.
