Chelios has retired and will assume a position in the Red Wings front office, reports TSN.ca.
ANALYSIS
The 11-time All-Star, three-time Norris trophy winner and two-time Stanley Cup winner doesn't have a title yet and his specific duties haven't been determined. He will be a HOFer very soon. What a career.

Even on the heels of another Stanley Cup title, the 46-year-old Chelios decided to return to the Red Wings rather than enjoy the fruits of retirement. Detroit is very deep on the blue line, so Chelios won't see more than third-pairing ice time. With that, he's not much of a fantasy threat, as 10-15 points and a decent plus-minus are all of the mileage you can safely expect to get out of him.
He's still kicking into his mid-40s, and a decent defender despite the grey hairs. Offense? The Red Wings don't ask him for any. He's not worth a pool pick unless you get something for his reliable plus-minus.
He was a tremendous two-way defenseman in his heyday, but the Red Wings pay Chelios strictly for his back-end work these days. Detroit doesn’t need his offense one bit, and with that you’re probably looking at 12 points or less from the 43-year-old vet. The only angle to own Chelios comes in deep leagues where penalty minutes and plus-minus enter the equation; Chelios should be around 100 PIMs again, and he’s a lock to be a plus-player given the team around him.
He was a capable offensive player back in the day, but all the Red Wings want from Chelios now is some defensive work as a No. 5 or No. 6 defenseman. The team will be smart to keep the 43-year-old from getting run down, so look for a moderate minute count on Chelios, and very little power-play time, if any.
