Brock Faber

Brock Faber

22-Year-Old DefensemanD
Minnesota Wild
2024 Fantasy Outlook
Faber had a fantastic rookie season with the Wild in 2023-24, providing eight goals and 47 points in 82 games. He also had a minus-one rating, 26 PIM, 65 hits and ranked second among Minnesota players in blocks with 150 while averaging a team-high 24:58 of ice time that included prominent roles on both the power play and in shorthanded situations. That versatility helped him finish second in Calder Trophy voting and should lead to him being a pillar of the Wild's blue line for years to come. Still just 22 years old, Minnesota will get Faber for one more season on an entry-level deal before his eight-year, $68 million contract extension kicks in. Look for him to help earn that payday by supplying another 45-55 points this season while blocking well over 125 shots. Read Past Outlooks

Faber scored a goal on four shots and added an assist in Friday's 6-1 preseason win over the Blackhawks.
ANALYSIS
Faber set up a Mats Zuccarello power-play goal late in the second period before scoring at even strength just 13 seconds into the third. With five points (three on the power play) over three preseason outings, Faber looks ready to turn the page to his second full NHL campaign. The 22-year-old defenseman had 47 points, including 16 on the power play, over 82 games last year, and he could show significant growth in 2024-25.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
A former standout at both the University of Minnesota and for Team USA at multiple World Junior tournaments, Faber turned pro following his junior season with the Gophers and appeared in two games for the Wild late in the year in addition to all six of their playoff contests. Faber is a strong skater with an excellent work ethic, but it's highly unlikely he will see enough power-play time to amass any fantasy value at the NHL level. That said, the 21-year-old is a future top-four defender for the Wild, likely beginning this upcoming season.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Expected to cash in
DMinnesota Wild
June 4, 2024
Faber, who will be entering the final season of his entry-level deal, is expected to sign a big dollar extension this offseason, per Michael Russo of The Athletic on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Faber will likely finish behind Connor Bedard for the Calder Trophy for the league's top rookie, but that certainly won't cost him any salary or term when it comes to negotiating an extension. The 21-year-old blueliner racked up eight goals and 39 helpers, including 16 power-play points, while playing in all 82 regular-season games this season. With another step in his progression, Faber should be capable of besting those numbers in 2024-25 and might even be able to put himself in the Norris Trophy discussion in the future.
