Thomas earned a two-way deal with the Panthers in the offseason. Unfortunately, his offensive prospects are severely limited and his playing time largely depends on the health of the more established skaters in the Panthers' organization. He is expected to begin the 2010-11 season with the Rochester Americans of the AHL.
The Penguins replaced one Pittsburgh native (Ryan Malone) with another in Thomas over the summer. The results, however, will not likely be similar. Thomas has played in parts of three seasons with Phoenix, collecting 17 points (9, 8) in 40 games. He's a fourth liner if he makes the team.
The University of Nebraska-Omaha product returns to the Coyotes for 2007-2008. He played 24 games with the Coyotes last season and scored eight goals with six assists. The Coyotes coaching staff still have been impressed with his natural abilities and there is a good opportunity for Thomas to be a full-time player with the Coyotes. If he earns a roster spot through training camp, he may find ice time with the Coyotes third line and could have a 40 point season.
