Ben Zweiman's weekly look at the prospects scene comes in the form of a 10-pack of top-five lists, including Boston's Malcolm Subban holding his spot as the top goalie prospect despite a slow start in the AHL this year.
2018 Fantasy Outlook
Holmstrom, a Swedish prospect, caught the attention of Red Wings scouts and ended up getting selected by the Original Six club in the seventh round (196th overall) of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. The net-crashing power forward made the transition to North America two years ago and contributed modestly to the AHL Griffin's Calder Cup win. This past season, he chipped in seven goals and 19 assists against a minus-11 rating through 66 minor-league contests. He likely needs more refinement before hitting the big stage, but Holmstrom should make some noise in training camp this fall in a bid to land a roster spot.
