Matthew Peca

Peca was a small-fish free-agent signing prior to the 2018-19 season, and opened the campaign as the Canadiens' starting fourth-line center. He quickly became part of a revolving door on the bottom unit, failing to generate much offense and finishing the season with a minus-14 rating in 39 games. By the end of the year, he was a ghost, appearing in just one of Montreal's final 19 games. If he's not going to provide depth scoring, Peca can help his cause by improving on faceoffs or making himself indisposable on the penalty kill. Either way, he'll be one of eight players vying for a spot on the fourth line during training camp, and isn't worth a look in any fantasy setting.

Peca inked a two-year deal with the Canadiens on July 1 after failing to crack the Bolts lineup in his time in their system. At 5-foot-8 and 178 pounds, Peca is a fire-hydrant type, but he does have some intriguing upside. His speed and vision has helped him deliver three-straight 40-plus point seasons in the AHL. Peca will vie with Jacob de La Rose for the role of fourth-line pivot, and he'll help on the penalty kill. But he won't help in fantasy.
