May 1, 2018
Pedan signed a deal with KHL team Ak Bars on Tuesday, Igor Eronko of Sport-Express reports.
ANALYSIS
Pedan -- who was part of the Penguins' Black Aces call-ups -- will apparently link up with Ak Bars next season. The 24-year-old spent the entire 2017-18 campaign with AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, where he notched 26 points in 52 appearances. The blueliner is scheduled to be a restricted free agent in the offseason, so Pittsburgh will presumably retain his rights when he heads overseas.

Pedan has bounced back and forth between the AHL and ECHL the past couple of seasons. He will likely begin this season at Bridgeport of the AHL, and while there is always a chance he could spend time with the Isles this season, it is highly unlikely.
Pedan was the Islanders' third-round draft choice in 2011 and graduated to the AHL at the end of last season, playing eight games. The Islanders still have hopes that Pedan can be an NHL defenseman but their system is now loaded with defensive prospects and he will have to perform well to get that call up.
Pedan more than likely will return to the OHL this season as he still needs some experience before he begins his pro career. He has the size to play in the NHL and could be solid defender with some offensive ability, as evidenced by the 40 points he notched for Guelph last season in 63 games. Remember his name in keeper leagues in a few seasons.
The Islanders chose Pedan in the third round of the NHL Entry Draft this past June. Pedan is a big defenseman, but so far he has yet so show any offensive skills.
