Moore, who played in six games for the Sharks in 2010-11, will provide the B's organization with added blue line depth, but it will probably take a handful of injuries for the 28-year-old to get the call from the big club this coming season.
Every team in the NHL needs reserve options, and the Sharks are no exception. The opportunity was tenuous, but the Sharks called on Moore for a total of six games in 2010-11, and he helped shore up the defense when injuries struck a couple of the team’s more established rearguards. The physical Moore also appeared in 49 games with the Worcester Sharks (AHL), providing 12 points (2 G, 10 A) and 50 penalty minutes. Overall, Moore is a solid depth option for the Toothed Teal.
While he may not be on the same level or as close to the NHL as say, Brandon Mashinter or Nick Petrecki, Moore is a low maintenance rearguard with a knack for delivering punishing hits and accumulating penalty minutes. San Jose professed their feelings for Moore in July of 2010 by re-signing him to a new contract. It would be a surprise to see him in the NHL in 2010-11, but it might not take him much longer than that to arrive.
Fans of the AHL’s Worcester Sharks probably want to see more of Moore after the gritty defenseman compiled 18 points (5G, 13A) to go along with 132 PIMs in 76 games of the 2008-09 season. He’s an intriguing call-up option for the future.
