Sweatt continued his development at the minor league level last season, finishing with 34 points (16 G, 18 A) in 71 appearances for Chicago of the AHL; he even made a brief appearance with the Canucks in December 2011, playing limited minutes in two games before getting sent back to Chicago. At 24, Sweatt appears ready to take the next step to the NHL level. He possesses the speed and hands to be a productive scorer in the NHL but might earn his stripes through his strong defensive play and as a penalty killer. Don’t be surprised if the Canucks turn to Sweatt for some extra forward depth in 2012-13.
