Sertich is considered an excellent playmaker, with superb puck skills, passing ability and on-ice vision. He is a very smooth skater with deceptively good speed. The biggest knock in Sertich is that he needs to add bulk to his thin frame. He has a bright future, but look for him to continue to hone his game in the AHL this season.
Sertich has put up good offensive numbers just about everywhere he's been in the minors. However, at age 26, the window of opportunity for cracking an NHL roster is closing quickly. He's a hard worker on the ice, good hands, smooth skater with deceptive speed and good with the puck. The one knock against him has been his thin frame - 5'8" and 165 lbs. The Avs are quite deep at center, so he needs to have a lights-out training camp if he expects to be able to crack the roster.
One of Dallas' collection of former Hobey Baker winners, Sertich was playing well at Iowa before suffering a knee injury. He's expected to be one of Iowa's better scorers, but his NHL time will be limited to a few games here and there when injuries dictate.
Enjoyed a solid tournament (3 goals, 3 assists) in the Traverse City tournament, he's expected to spend in the year in the minors following a successful college career.
