O'Marra was once a top prospect in the Islanders' organization and was expected to be the same for Edmonton when they acquired him as part of the Ryan Smyth deal. Unfortunately, he has not been able to make his mark with Edmonton, having scored just one goal in 24 games for the Oilers and two in 53 games for Oklahoma City (AHL). He will fight for a job in training camp but is likely to begin the season once again in the AHL.
O'Marra was one of the pieces to the trade that sent Ryan Smyth to the Islanders in 2006. O'Marra is a former first round pick who just hasn't been able to take that next leap to the NHL. The Oilers took a look at him late last season and he failed to impress. He certainly won't make the team out of camp, but a good camp could get him called up when a forward is needed.
O'Marra has still not been able to make his mark with Edmonton since being acquired from the Islanders in the Ryan Smyth deal. Scoring only one goal in 62 games in the AHL last season means he is not even on the Oilers radar to play in the NHL this season.
O'Marra has upside as he projects to a third line center in the NHL. Was demoted to the ECHL, where he made the All-Star team and promoted back to the AHL. His biggest value could be in the face off circle where he is exceptional at taking draws.
Part of the package deal for Ryan Smyth, O'Marra was a top prospect in the Islanders' organization. He projects to be a dependable all-around player for Edmonton, as long as his development continues in the AHL.
Expected to be a big part of the franchise's future, just not this year. He will likely be assigned to Bridgeport of the AHL to further his development.
He's one of the top prospects from the 2005 NHL entry draft. Has great leadership quality about him, thus he has drawn comparisons to Michael Peca. Can also put points on the board.
Great attitude, great hands, bad wheels. This guy will play in the NHL for a very long time and will probably be some team's captain for just about as long, but his skating may prevent him from taking his OHL scoring ability to the NHL. He's one of the top-five prospects coming out of the OHL for the 2005 NHL entry draft.
