Darche signed with New Jersey on a tryout basis in January 2013 and could be a solid addition to the team's defensive lines if he were to stick with the club.
Darche was a utility tool for the Habs last season, filling in wherever the team needed. He’s mostly a third- or fourth-liner, but found himself skating with the top-six boys at times. As a result, he posted career-highs in goals (12) and points (26). Obviously, we’re not talking high-end fantasy value here, but his hard work has made him a trusted forward for coach Jacques Martin. Expect third-line minutes for the 34-year-old Darche.
Darche is a career 20-30 goal scorer in his minor league career. However the two previous season ins the NHL Darche has a tough time finding the net. In his only extensive time on the ice in 2007-2008 he ended up with seven goals and 15 assists for a total 22 points in 73 games. Darche will split time between the AHL and NHL clubs this year and don't expect much playing time for the Canadien's unless there is an injury.
Darche is a veteran role player that should shuffle between Buffalo and AHL Portland this season. He's not a significant fantasy player.
He's too old (29) to be considered a prospect, and the Sharks already have six rock-solid forwards anyway. Darche will be buried on a back line if he happens to stick with the club.
