Yahoo DFS Hockey: Monday Picks

Yahoo DFS Hockey: Monday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

There are four games in the NHL on Monday with Vancouver the only club playing for a second consecutive night. The Jets are huge favorites over the Coyotes, whereas the Kraken, Canadiens and Flames are also all receiving modest chalk. Here's a peek at the fantasy landscape ahead of Monday's action.

All statistics from Natural Stat Trick and Hockey Reference.

GOALIE

Connor Hellebuyck, WPG vs. ARI ($32): This is a manageable salary, and Arizona enters with the fewest goals per game in the league and a 2-9-1 road record. Hellebuyck is also having another solid season with a .917 save percentage through 16 appearances.

GOALIE TO AVOID

Tristan Jarry, PIT at CGY ($36): Even with five consecutive wins and just two goals against during the dominant surge, Jarry's in a tough spot Monday. The Flames have averaged a healthy 3.33 goals per game and rank seventh in power-play percentage. Jarry's salary is also obviously steep.

CENTER

Mark Scheifele, WPG vs. ARI ($19): It's been a down start to the campaign for Scheifele, as his 1.52 points per 60 minutes and 6.5 shooting percentage significantly trail his 2.92 and 17.8 marks over the previous three seasons. With Arizona allowing the third most goals per game in the league, Scheifele could see statistical correction beginning Monday.

CENTER TO AVOID

Sidney Crosby, PIT at CGY ($29): With the Flames allowing the fewest goals per game this season, it's more difficult to justify targeting Crosby at this salary. He's recorded just two tallies, four helpers and a minus-4 rating through nine games, too.

WING

Kyle Connor, WPG vs. ARI ($30): A stack candidate alongside center Mark Scheifele, Connor's been excellent this season with 14 tallies, 10 helpers and a sustainable 14.7 shooting percentage that's below the 15.7 mark he posted over the previous four campaigns.

Brock Boeser, VAN vs. MON ($16): The 24-year-old winger hasn't found the back of the net in 10 games and sports an 8.5 shooting percentage for the campaign. After posting a 13.6 mark through his first five seasons, statistical correction is likely ahead for Boeser. This is also a soft matchup with Montreal allowing the second most goals per game in the league.

WINGS TO AVOID

Andrew Mangiapane, CGY vs. PIT ($19): Negative regression in the goals column remains likely for Mangiapane. He's sporting an unsustainably high 27.3 shooting percentage this year, and as noted, Pittsburgh starter Tristan Jarry ($36) has been fantastic of late with a .986 save percentage through his past five starts.

Josh Anderson, MON at VAN ($17): With three goals, an assist and 10 shots through his past two games, Anderson is in high-end form. He'll likely be a popular target given the reasonable salary and favorable matchup, though. Additionally, Andersson's been inconsistent and missed the scoresheet entirely in 14 of 23 games this season.

DEFENSE

Neal Pionk, WPG vs. ARI ($16): Projected to return to his role quarterbacking the No. 1 power-play unit, Pionk is another Jet to turn to Monday in the favorable matchup against Arizona. He's recorded double-digit points with the man advantage in each of the past three seasons, so with just a single goal and three assists up a man through 21 games this year, there's reason for optimism Monday.

Vince Dunn, SEA at BUF ($10): Currently rolling along a nice offensive stretch with five assist through his past eight games, Dunn's a worthwhile target at minimum salary. The Sabres have also allowed the fifth most goals per game and rank 23rd in penalty-kill percentage this season, so the matchup is soft. Just note, Dunn does have a minus-8 ranking for the campaign and a minus-6 mark during the highlighted eight-game stretch.

DEFENSE TO AVOID

Jakob Chychrun, ARI at WPG ($19): This salary is too steep. Chychrun's recorded just two tallies, four helpers and one double-digit fantasy point showing this year, and his minus-25 rating through 20 games is crippling in these scoring settings. As noted, Winnipeg is also the largest favorite on the docket.

Quinn Hughes, VAN at MON ($17): In the midst of a cool stretch, Hughes has recorded just three assists and a minus-4 rating through his past nine contests without reaching double-digit fantasy points in a single outing. The Canadiens are also favorites and coming off a solid 6-3 road win over the Penguins on Saturday.
