Yahoo DFS Hockey: Monday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

It's a busy night in the NHL with seven games on Monday. The Panthers are gigantic favorites while the Lightning, Blues and Capitals are all also receiving notable chalk. Expect players from Florida and Tampa Bay to be popular targets. Here's a quick-hit peek at some targets and fades for your daily lineups.

All statistics from Natural Stat Trick and Hockey Reference.

GOALIE

Braden Holtby, DAL at CLS ($26): This salary doesn't match Holtby's solid start to the season. The veteran sports a .950 save percentage and 1.79 GAA, and Dallas has surrendered the sixth fewest high-danger scoring chances per 60 minutes at five-on-five in the league. It's also worth highlighting the Blue Jackets have only scored five regulation goals through their past four games.

GOALIE TO AVOID

Jack Campbell, TOR at CAR ($31): This is an easy fade in a deep goalie pool. Toronto has allowed the fourth most high-danger scoring chances per 60 minutes at five-on-five this season and 12 goals through its past two contests. A road game against the Hurricanes is a tough matchup. Carolina ranks fourth in goals per game and sixth in goals per 60 minutes at five-on-five, after all.

CENTER

Sam Bennett, FLA vs. ARI ($20): With Arizona allowing the most goals per game and ranking last in team save percentage, Bennett and the Panthers land in a plus-matchup. The center paces Florida in goals, shot attempts and individual high-danger scoring chances, and his salary doesn't break the bank. Bennett is also skating in all situations averaging 4:44 per game on the power-play and 2:45 while shorthanded.

CENTER TO AVOID

Joe Pavelski, DAL vs. CLS ($20): The veteran has been held to one shot or fewer in four of five games while also failing to reach double-digit fantasy points in each outing. As a result, he's probably best viewed as a low-floor, low-ceiling contributor until proven otherwise. Just note, his six individual high-danger scoring chances are tied for tops on the Stars, and Pavelski is still skating with the No. 1 power-play unit.

WING

Alex Ovechkin, WAS at CGY ($34): With five tallies, five helpers, 20 shots and 40 attempts through the first five contests of the campaign, No. 8 is producing high-end numbers to start the year. Ovechkin's shot volume makes him an incredibly safe option, and he's averaged 5:50 of power-play ice time per game while also reaching double-digit fantasy points in each outing.

Corey Perry, TB at BUF ($10): The veteran has landed on the No. 1 power-play unit and paces the Lightning in individual high-danger scoring chances. It adds up to him being a viable flier at minimum price, as statistical correction should land him on the scoresheet sooner than later. Additionally, with consecutive losses, the Sabres should return to being viewed as a favorable opponent night in, night out moving forward.

WINGS TO AVOID

Mitch Marner, TOR at CAR ($33): The Hurricanes have surrendered the fewest goals per game this season and rank third in team save percentage at five-on-five. Additionally, starter Frederik Andersen ($33) has oodles of familiarity with Toronto's shooters, for what it's worth. While Marner's had his chances -- nine of the individual high-danger variety -- this season, his lone assist through six games hasn't made a fantasy dent.

David Perron, STL vs. LA ($26): After exploding for three tallies, a helper, three power-play points and six shots against the Kings on Saturday, expect a change of fortunes for Perron on Monday. Los Angeles had surrendered just nine regulation goals through its previous four contests and currently ranks second in the league with a 55.4 Corsi For percentage for the campaign.

DEFENSE

Victor Hedman, TB at BUF ($24): There's definitely a case to be made that this salary isn't prohibitive enough. Hedman has found the scoresheet in four of five games for seven assists, 16 shots and 11 blocks. He's averaging 3:55 of power-play time quarterbacking the No. 1 unit and should also pad his stat line with a plus-rating against the Sabres on Monday.

Tony DeAngelo, CAR vs. TOR ($18): The first-year 'Cane has found the scoresheet in three of four games. DeAngelo is averaging 3:51 of ice time per game quarterbacking the No. 1 power-play unit  and beginning 72.4 percent of his five-on-five shifts in the offensive zone, so he's being positioned to succeed. As noted, the Maple Leafs shouldn't be considered a daunting matchup after allowing 12 goals through their past two games, either.

DEFENSE TO AVOID

Jakob Chychrun, ARI at FLA ($19): This salary doesn't connect with Chychrun's poor start to the campaign. The talented blueliner is in bad surroundings with the Coyotes and failed to register a single point while posting a minus-9 rating through five games to start the campaign. Making matters worse, he's not even skating with the No. 1 power-play unit. This is also a tough road matchup against the 5-0 Panthers.

Gustav Forsling, FLA vs. ARI ($18): On the flip side of the Arizona-Florida tilt, Forsling doesn't jump off the page from his salary range in the deep blueline pool. He's missed the scoresheet in consecutive games, doesn't receive regular power-play time and is neither a high-volume shooter or shot-blocker. As noted, it is a soft matchup against the Coyotes, though.
