FanDuel NHL: Sunday Value Plays

FanDuel NHL: Sunday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel NHL series.

Goalie

Semyon Varlamov, COL vs DET ($7,900): Varlamov will be your chalk goalie Sunday, and I'm fine with using him. Detroit's offense is pathetic, averaging 2.52 GPG (29th) while scoring eight goals in their last five games. The Red Wings are 1-8-1 in their last 10 games and travel to Colorado to face an Avalanche team that is 24-9-2 at home this season and has 16 goals in its last four games (3-1).

Center

Brayden Point, TB vs EDM ($6,400): Point lines up in a good spot to get his production back on track after a four-game stretch without recording a point. The Oilers have allowed the sixth-most fantasy points to centers over the last month including 14 goals and 20 assists over the 13-game stretch. It's only a matter of time before the 20-year-old gets going against for the highest-scoring team in the NHL, and Sunday presents an excellent opportunity.

Mathew Barzal, NYI vs CAR ($6,200): The Hurricanes will have their hands full facing off with the high-powered Islanders, who have buried 11 goals against them in three games this season. Barzal has a goal and two assists in his last two games and four points in the three matchups with Carolina. The Hurricanes have allowed 13 goals and 26 assists in their last 11 games to centers, and the rookie will be looking to build on his 19 goals and 53 assists.

Wing

Gabriel Landeskog, COL vs DET ($6,200): The captain of the Avalanche has been skating on one of the most dominant lines in the league for the majority of the season, a unit that includes Hart Trophy candidate Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen. The trio has combined for 43 goals, second most in the league. The Red Wings have allowed the third-most fantasy points to left wingers over the last month, and Landeskog comes into this matchup with three goals and eight assists in his last eight outings.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, EDM at TB ($5,800): As the guy that was "Connor McDavid" before Connor McDavid, RNH has had a tough time living up to expectation for a numbers of reasons thus far in his career, one of which being injuries. The No. 1 overall draft pick of the 2011 draft has four goals and three assists in seven games since returning from an injury that cost him nearly two months of action. Skating on McDavid's line and facing the Lightning, who've allowed 14 goals and 15 assists to left wingers in their last 11 games, RNH sticks out as a value option.

T.J. Oshie, WAS at PHI ($5,500): It has not been a banner season for Oshie individually, but of late the former Blue has been hot with three goals in his last two games. The Flyers have allowed the fifth-most fantasy points to right wingers over the last month, including 12 goals and 15 assists surrendered over their last 13 games.

Defense

Tyson Barrie, COL vs DET ($5,700): Barrie is one of the defensemen that most casual hockey fans have never heard of, and he draws a dream matchup against Detroit on Sunday. The Red Wings have allowed the most fantasy points to defensemen over the last month. Furthermore, the 26-year-old is riding a nine-game point streak with four goals and eight assists over that span. He's also recorded five points in his last five games against Detroit, as if you needed another reason to play him.

Jaccob Slavin, CAR at NYI ($4,600): Carolina has one of the strongest, young defense cores in the NHL with Justin Faulk, Noah Hanifin, Brett Pesce and Slavin. The 23-year-old has 23 points -- seven goals -- including a goal and an assist Saturday. Slavin recorded his first and only hat trick against the Islanders, who have allowed the most goals (45), assists (142) and second-most shots on goal (803) to blueliners this season. Carolina is always a team I look to when I need value at the blue line, and Slavin is the guy I'm looking to roster on Sunday.
