FanDuel NHL: Monday Targets

FanDuel NHL: Monday Targets

This article is part of our FanDuel NHL series.

SLATE PREVIEW

There are five games for Monday's slate with staggered starts due to the national holiday both in the U.S. and Canada. With the early start at 1 p.m. EST, all five games will be available for the All Day slate while the matinee games will be available on the Main slate and a rare Afternoon Only slate will feature only Hurricanes at Flyers and Jets at Flames.

All player salaries quoted below are for the All Day slate.

GOALIES

Thatcher Demko, VAN vs. SEA ($7,800): The Canucks suffered an ugly loss Saturday against the Ducks and Demko was pulled, but given how well he's performed all season, we'll chalk that up as an anomaly. Demko has already faced the Kraken twice this season, winning both times and stopping 59 of 63 shots.

Darcy Kuemper, COL at BOS ($8,300): Brad Marchand will not be available as he serves the last game of his six-game suspension, once again depriving the Bruins of their top scorer. It goes without saying that losses are few and far between for the Avs, who have lost just once (!) in regulation in 2022. Kuemper has won four straight games with only five goals allowed, including two shutouts.

Frederik Andersen, CAR at PHI ($8,500): Andersen has not been particularly sharp, allowing three goals in each of his past three starts, and while the Flyers have averaged three goals per game in their past four games, still have one of the worst offenses in the league, ranking 28th in GF/GP. Andersen may not deliver on the peripherals, but a win is fairly certain even though the Canes are playing the second half of a back-to-back.

Jack Campbell, TOR at MTL ($8,600): Campbell or Petr Mrazek should be good options against the Habs, even though they've fared much better lately with two straight wins, both of which needed extra time. Campbell wasn't sharp in his last start with five goals allowed against the Blues, but he's had strong bounce-back performances all season. In the two losses prior in which he allowed five goals – Jan. 19 against the Rangers and Feb. 10 against the Flames – Campbell has bounced back with a win.

VALUE PLAYS

Adam Brooks, WPG at CGY ($3,700): The Winnipeg native was recently claimed off waivers and skated on the second line opposite Kyle Connor with Pierre-Luc Dubois in the middle at Sunday's practice. The 25-year-old is well-travelled despite having only 29 games under his belt, and there's definitely some untapped offensive potential since he's been featured on the Leafs' power plays and has scored both a power-play goal and shorthanded goal in his career. Scoring on the Flames will not be easy, but this is Brooks' chance to make a statement right away with his new team.

Ryan Donato, SEA at VAN ($4,200): Beating Demko will be difficult but getting past the Canucks defense probably won't. Physical depth defender Kyle Burroughs and top-four all-rounder Oliver Ekman-Larsson were both hurt in Saturday's loss to the Ducks, and both seem doubtful as of Sunday evening. Donato has sneaky value since he's slated to skate alongside top scorer Jared McCann and has been a fixture on the Kraken power play all season.

LINE STACKS

Canucks vs. Kraken

Bo Horvat (C - $5,400), J.T. Miller (W - $7,100), Brock Boeser (W - $6,000)

There's a chance Bruce Boudreau mixes up his lines after a 7-4 loss to the Ducks, but there's plenty of upside with Horvat being their top faceoff guy, Miller as their top scorer and Boeser being one of their best shooters. All three also feature prominently on the top power play unit, and the Kraken goaltending is undoubtedly their biggest weakness.

DEFENSEMEN

Tony DeAngelo, CAR at PHI ($6,100): DeAngelo has been an overlooked DFS for much of the season and with 40 points on the season remains one of the most reliable offensive defensemen. His assist Sunday against the Pens gives him seven points in his past seven games, and the Flyers should be an easy opponent.

Quinn Hughes, VAN vs. SEA ($5,700): Look for Hughes to log a ton of minutes if Ekman-Larsson is unavailable, and he already plays an outsized role in the Canucks' transition game and on the power play. He's scored two points in each of his past two games and in two previous games against the Kraken has logged two assists.
