Tuesday's NHL slate features seven games and begins at 7:00 PM Eastern time. Below, you'll find an overview of the matchups and suggested options for crafting an effective lineup.
SLATE PREVIEW
There are plenty of lopsided matchups to pick on in this slate, with the Canadiens visiting the Red Wings, the Blues hosting the Devils and the Jets hosting the Kings. The Sabres will also be clear-cut favorites in Ottawa, while the Maple Leafs-Penguins game features a pair of top-seven offenses.
GOALIES
You never know what you're going to get from Carey Price ($7,900), who's 0-3-1 in his last four starts following an 8-2-0 stretch. Still, the Canadiens netminder is worth rolling the dice on in the most favorable matchup the league has to offer — Detroit's offense is by far the worst in the league at 1.98 goals per game.
Carter Hart ($7,700) will draw the start for the home side in this battle between the teams currently occupying the two wild card spots in the Eastern Conference. The young Flyers netminder is 2-1-0 with a 2.38 GAA and .915 save percentage since returning from an abdominal injury and will host a Blue Jackets team that's winless in its last five games and averaging just 2.58 goals this season.
Connor Hellebuyck ($8,100) is 4-2-1 in his last seven starts, holding five of those opponents to two goals each. His strong form should persist against a visiting Kings team that's scoring 2.46 goals per game, topping only the Red Wings.
The Blues will almost certainly need Jordan Binnington ($8,500) to get back on track if they want to make any noise this postseason. Sunday's loss to Nashville marked the first time Binnington allowed fewer than three goals in his past nine starts, but he gets a terrific opportunity to put those recent struggles behind him at home against a Devils team that just traded second-leading goal scorer Blake Coleman (21) and captain Andy Greene.
VALUE PLAYS/ONE-OFFS
Sebastian Aho ($7,300) is riding a nine-game point streak for the Hurricanes, with a tremendous 9-6-15 line over that stretch. The 22-year-old center has seen his goal total climb in each of his first four seasons, already sitting on 33 after potting 24, 29 and 30 in his first three campaigns. He should stay hot against a Predators team that's allowing 3.17 goals per game.
Sidney Crosby ($7,400) has five points in his last two games, and the Penguins star is more than capable of keeping his hot streak going at home against the Maple Leafs, who are letting in 3.25 goals per game.
David Perron ($5,800) continues to lead the Blues in both goals (23) and points (56) through 59 games. The winger's primed for further success against a depleted Devils team that's allowing 3.41 goals per game — second-most in the league.
The Kings may not pack much punch offensively, but Tyler Toffoli's ($5,400) on a nice personal run. He has 16 shots in his last three games and four goals in his last two, including a hat trick in the Stadium Series win over the Avalanche last time out. Toffoli will be motivated to keep producing to impress suitors ahead of the Feb. 24 trade deadline.
FORWARD LINE STACKS
Sabres at Senators
Jack Eichel (C - $8,300), Victor Olofsson (W - $7,100), Sam Reinhart (W - $5,700)
This line has looked much more dangerous in the two games since Olofsson returned from a lower-body injury. Olofsson has logged two goals and an assist in those two games to bring his season line to 18-20-38 in 44 appearances. Eichel's 2-2-4 line since Olofsson's return stretched his point streak to five games and improved his season line to 33-41-74 in 58 games, while Reinhart ranks second on the team in both goals (21) and points (48). These guys should continue their strong play against a Senators team that's surrendering 3.31 goals per game — fourth-most in the league.
Jets vs. Kings
Blake Wheeler (C - $6,400), Patrik Laine (W - $8,200), Nikolaj Ehlers (W - $5,600)
This line has been hot and should continue to produce against a Kings team that's just 9-21-4 on the road. Wheeler has a 3-5-8 line in his last eight games, and he's more than capable of keeping this level up after consecutive 91-point seasons in 2017-18 and 2018-19. Laine has potted nine goals in his last 12 games, and Ehlers has a 2-5-7 line in his last nine.
Canadiens at Red Wings
Phillip Danault (C - $4,800), Tomas Tatar (W - $5,800), Jordan Weal (W - $2,900)
You'll be hard-pressed to find a cheaper top line, especially in the context of facing the league-worst Red Wings defense (3.74 goals allowed per game). Tatar leads the Canadiens in both goals (32) and points (53) through 61 games. Danault's second on the team with 40 points, and 36 of those have come at even strength, so he usually shares the wealth with his linemates. Weal practiced in this spot Monday, and he's set to occupy this top-line position should the questionable Brendan Gallagher (lower body) sit. The affordable winger has earned the promotion with a 2-1-3 line and 12 shots over his past four games.
DEFENSEMEN
Alex Pietrangelo ($6,700) should be worth paying up for against the lowly Devils. The standout St. Louis defenseman has a 13-34-47 line through 59 games.
Rasmus Dahlin ($4,800) continues to be a consistent source of points for the Sabres. He has 14 points in his last 15 games and will look to keep rolling in Ottawa.
Jaccob Slavin ($5,100) has picked up the slack in a big way with offensive dynamo Dougie Hamilton sidelined by a fractured fibula. He has eight points in his last nine games heading into Carolina's cross-conference clash with the geographically close Predators.
Jeff Petry ($5,600) has gone scoreless in his last five games and could see his role reduced if the questionable Shea Weber (foot) is able to make a surprising early return against the Red Wings. Nonetheless, Petry could still be a prudent option in Detroit given the home side's defensive struggles and his 19 points in the 21 games prior to the five-game drought.
