Mediate finished tied for 42nd at the True South Classic.
ANALYSIS
If anyone out there plays Champions Tour fantasy golf, Mediate needs to be your #1 pick next year when he turns 50. While Rocco has been struggling this year on the PGA Tour -- this 42nd place finish is his fourth best finish of the year in 17 starts -- he has the attitude and game to flourish out on that tour. And the mostly 54 hole events will help his balky back, too.

Mediate is only two years away from the Champions Tour, and while he's shown some brilliant flashes of his youth the last few years, namely the Frys.com Open last year and the 2008 U.S. Open, his game is likely to decline the next two seasons. Mediate has battled health issues for the better part of the last 10 years, and, though he's been relatively healthy the last few years, you never know when those issues will creep back into the picture. As such, Mediate is a very risky pick. Mediate has excelled at driving accuracy and GIR the last two seasons, but he's short off the tee and his putting is not sharp.
The feel good story is losing its luster and Mediate is losing his game as he gets older. No value here, but he will get drafted because of his name.
Mediate had a showing for the ages at the 2008 US Open, but it's pretty clear that he doesn't have much in the tank anymore. Mediate has dealt with a plethora of injuries over the last five years and the toll will only get more difficult to overcome as the years go on. Mediate had arthroscopic knee surgery on February 2, 2009. On Monday, February 9th, The Golf Channel reported Mediate battling a high fever resulting from an infection following the knee operation. Later, Mediate said there were no problems with the knee, rather he had the flu which triggered the antibiotic treatments.
2007 was the first season in a long time that Rocco Mediate played relatively pain free, and it showed. While the consistency wasn't quite back yet, the flashes of his old game where present on more than one occasion. He finished runner-up at the Arnold Palmer, and scored top-10s at the Nissan Open and the AT&T National. If he comes into 2008 healthy, he should improve upon his 2007 numbers.
Mediate could not get it going in 2004 while dealing with back pain. Hopefully he has taken enough time to get healthy, if so he should easily top his 250k from last year.
Mediate had a runner-up finish in January and a runner-up finish in September. In between? Not a thing. Mediate had risen near the top of the tour and was making strides every year, until the letdown last year. If Mediate is going to bounce back in 2004, it all depends on how his back holds up.
