The 37-year-old Swede played eight tournaments (made three cuts) last season on a major medical extension. He still has 15 starts to earn 252.777 points. Is it possible, yes? But very unlikely.
Blixt didn't play in an event in the 2019-20 season due to an undisclosed injury and it's unclear when he will play again. He hasn't been relevant in Tour in quite some time with only one top-10 result in the previous two seasons. Those results on the injury concerns make him an unreliable season-long fantasy choice.
Blixt has been on the PGA Tour full-time since 2012, he has three wins in that time, yet only just over $10 million in earnings. You'd expect a higher career number with full-time status and three wins over an 8-year span, but Blixt has only 13 top-10s in his career. He's the classic "hit or miss" guy and although he's hit on a few occasions, he's mostly missed over the past six seasons. He crept inside the top-125 this past season, which means he'll again be a full member this season, but his upside is limited, even if he happens to win at some point.
Blixt hit the ground running as a rookie in 2012, picking up a win on his way to a $2 million season and he backed that up with a similar effort in 2013, but the three years following were not so great. He came back a bit last season, picking up another win at the Zurich Classic, but that was a team event and when put in context of the entire season, it makes sense that he might have needed help that week. Blixt's win at the Zurich was his only top-10 for the entire season and when combined with the previous three seasons, it paints a bleak picture. As such, Blixt is not a good salary cap option this season.
Blixt wasted little time in acclimating to the PGA Tour in 2012 as he posted wins in each of his first two seasons and surpassed the $2 million mark each year as well. At that point, Blixt appeared to be one of the up-and-coming stars on the PGA Tour, but he regressed a bit in his third season and nearly fell off the map in his 4th-season. He bounced-back a bit last season, which is certainly a good sign for the upcoming season. Though he bounced-back last year, Blixt's number is still low enough that he could bounce further this season. With that in mind, he deserves some consideration in salary cap leagues this year. In draft leagues, he should go near the ninth or 10th round.
After two outstanding seasons, Blixt came back to earth last season. Blixt's loss is our gain however as his number is set at a point where it's going to be hard to pass up this year. Blixt is really a $2 million guy, but for some reason he couldn't get it together last season. Blixt has too much talent to make less than $2 million, so unless he's trapped in some kind of funk this season, he should have no problem making significantly more than he did last year. He's not quite a "must-have" this year, but he's close. In draft leagues he should go in the top-50.
Blixt showed some flashes in 2013, which led to a win at the Greenbrier Classic, but outside that win, he didn't show the consistency that many expected. Blixt is becoming that guy, who looks really good one week and then disappears for long stretches. Fact of the matter is, he's better than that and the consistency will come with time. Will it come this year? There's a good chance it will, which would make him a good option in salary cap formats.
When Blixt teed it up at the Frys.com Open in mid-October he had already secured his card for this season, but complacency wasn't an option for Blixt. Four days later, Blixt had his first PGA TOUR win, and he now enters 2013 with top-50 status. If his October victory was the lone bright spot on his resume, it would be hard to recommend him for this season, but his 2012 consisted of far more than just that one win. Blixt had a streak of three consecutive top-10s thwarted by a rib injury, and it took a while to get back into form. Once healthy, though, he again thrived. Considering Blixt missed a big chunk of the season, he should have little problem topping his earnings from last season, which makes him a solid salary cap selection this year. In draft leagues, Blixt should go in the fourth round.
Blixt has yet to win on the Nationwide Tour, but he came close several times last season, finishing with three runner-ups. A win on the resume is not a prerequisite for joining the the PGA Tour, but it sure is nice knowing that you are capable of closing out an event, at whatever level. Blixt appears to have enough talent to make a couple runs this season, but it's doubtful he'll have many high-end finishes this season.
Blixt made his first-ever professional start at the RBC Canadian Open. In his senior year at Florida State University (FSU), he was a first-team All-American.
