Huh made the playoffs for the first time in four years and flashed some of the form from when he first joined the PGA Tour 10 years ago. He grabbed the first round lead at the Wyndham Championship en route to a T-2 finish - one of two top-10s on the season. Huh is held back by his lack of distance off-the-tee but is good enough everywhere else to keep his card for another season.
Huh hasn't recorded a top-10 on the PGA Tour in three straight seasons despite appearing in 41 total events, but he'll retain status after rattling off three consecutive top-30s during the Korn Ferry Tour Finals, including a solo-seventh at the KFT Championship. In 2020-21 at the PGA level, he ranked 36th in SG: around-the-green and 43rd in driving accuracy, but fell to 190th in SG: putting and 183rd in three-putt avoidance.
There was no adjustment period for Huh during his rookie season as he hit the ground running from the get go. During his rookie season, Huh picked-up his first win and topped the $2 million mark with ease. He followed that up with another solid season in 2013, where he earned just over $1.5 million. Since then however, Huh has struggled to find his rookie form. Though he's managed to keep his PGA Tour card during each of the past five seasons, his best finish on the FedEx points list has been 97th. There's no logical reason for a regression like this, but it is what it is. Huh just simply hasn't shown any upside since 2013. As such, he's not a good option in salary cap leagues this season.
Huh made all five cuts last fall and that coupled with a single top-10 during the 2017 portion of the season was enough to sneak inside the top-125 last season and retain his playing privileges for this season. Huh picked up a win and a runner-up finish in his rookie season of 2012 and he earned more than $2.6 million that season, but he hasn't come close to that level since. Huh has spent the past four seasons just at, or under $1 million in earnings, and that's likely where he'll end up this season.
John Huh is one guy that's tough to figure. His rookie season on the PGA Tour was outstanding and he suffered a bit of a sophomore slump, but still managed $1.5 million in earnings, but his third, fourth and fifth seasons have not been very good. Normally, guys that start well, slip a bit in their sophomore seasons, but come back in either their third or fourth years, but Huh has yet to regain his rookie form. On the one hand, the upside is there, he earned $2.6 million in one season, but on the other hand, he hasn't looked like that player in three years. As such, he's worth some consideration in salary cap leagues. In draft leagues, he should go in the 10th-round or later.
Huh has regressed each year since his rookie season of 2012, but that regression has him a perfect salary cap candidate this season. Huh nearly cracked the $3 million mark his rookie season, but fell back to just over $1.5 million the following year. The regression last year was a little more alarming as he failed to top $1 million in earnings, but Huh is still young, still figuring this thing out, so he should bounce back at some point. As such, he makes a great salary cap candidate and is almost a "must-have". In draft leagues he should go around the 8th round.
Huh had a pretty decent 2013 season with eight top-25s, but he lacked the high-end finishes. Huh had only two top-10s and only one top-3 finish last year. He's off to a pretty good start in the 2013-2014 portion of the season with four cuts made in four tries, but again, only one top-25. He'll need to improve on the weekend before he starts making the big bucks. As such, he's not a good option in salary cap leagues. In draft formats he should go in the 60-70 range.
From Q-School to the winner's circle in just a matter of months. It's not supposed to be as easy as Huh made it look last year, but every once in a while a golfer just gets it right away, no adjustment period needed. Huh's win came in Puerto Rico, which, of course, is absent the best players in the world, but a rookie will take what he can get. The good news on Huh is he didn't coast after that victory. He kept at it and by season's end, he had two more top-5s on this resume, both coming at full-field events. Huh should continue to play well in his sophomore season, but he did set the bar pretty high last year. It's probably wise to pass on him this season in salary cap leagues because there's little history. In draft leagues, he should go in the fourth round.
At 21, Huh was the youngest qualifier from Q-School this year. Because of his youth, there's little to judge him on. Also because of his age, it's unlikely he'll handle the competition at this level, but you never know. Ryo Ishikawa anyone?
