2006
Couch has evolved from a one-hit-wonder into a more consistent player, and it seems to be paying off. Couch had his best year to date in 2006 when he won the Zurich Classic, but outside of that victory, he accomplished nothing. He struggled the following few years until 2010 when he started to find some consistency. Last year he played in two less events than 2010, yet he made five more cuts. He also increased his Top-25s by two and his Top-10s by one. Couch is starting to evolve, but it's hard to gauge his ceiling. We know he can get better, but it might take a while.
Couch captured his first PGA TOUR win in 2006, earning a career-high $1.3 million, but he wasn't a sound player. Although he didn't win last season and failed to make even $1 million, he's a better player now. For the first time in his PGA TOUR career, Couch showed some consistency last season. He earned two top-10s and five top-25s in 23 events last year. He already showed he has enough talent to win, but with this new-found consistency, Couch could really make a move up the money list soon. The improvement is due to his putting, where he ranked eighth on the PGA TOUR last season.
What can you say about a golfer who showed up once last year? Seriously, Couch won the Zurich Classic in April, and cracked the top-20 only two other times in 2006. He missed more cuts (16) than he made (10). You can see where this is going. Not a good salary cap pick, not a good pick period.
Third on the Nationwide Tour money list in 2005. Won two events. Finished tied for 13th at the Western Open in his only PGA Tour start.
