Ortiz currently is not qualified for any of the majors.
Ortiz played well in his rookie season on the PGA Tour in 2015, but injuries stalled his momentum soon after and he didn't get back on track until 2019. Since then, there's been a nice progression that culminated in his first win in 2020-21 at the Houston Open. Ortiz turned 30 in 2020-21, and it looks like he's finally got some momentum going which means he should continue his upward trend this season. The question is whether he improves enough to justify a salary cap selection.
Ortiz has had an interesting career that saw him win three times in a single season on the Korn Ferry Tour back in 2014, but also seen him bounce back-and-forth between both Tour's. He has good length with the driver and doesn't have any real weaknesses in his game. He had his best results in the fall portion of the schedule last season and it wouldn't be a surprise to see him finally get his first win next year.
Ortiz put together a decent rookie season in 2015, but he fell just short of retaining his card the following season. After two seasons away from the PGA Tour, he made it back this past season and accomplished just enough to retain his card for next season. To this point in his career, there hasn't been much upside and as such, he doesn't make for a good salary cap option this season.
Ortiz made 59 starts in two seasons on the PGA Tour before losing his card in 2016, making 30 cuts en route to 10 top-25s. He's spent the past two years on the Web.com Tour, however, making 36 out of 47 cuts in the process. In 2018 he finished second at the Bahamas Great Exuma Classic and would go on to record 11 top-25s. Ortiz also ranked top-25 in both ball striking and birdie average.
While there may be more accomplished rookies in terms of their track records before joining the Web.com Tour, there’s no one who had a better year on the Web.com Tour than Ortiz. Ortiz won three times, at the Panama Claro Championship, El Bosque Mexico Championship, and WinCo Foods Portland Open presented by Kraft, earning a Battlefield Promotion that makes him fully exempt on the PGA Tour for next season, allowing him to pick his own schedule. Statistically he finished fifth in the All-Around Ranking and sixth in total driving. He was overtaken in the overall regular season + finals money list by Adam Hadwin, which negated a shot of getting into The Players, but it was still a hugely successful campaign for Ortiz. Look for big things from Ortiz.
