Eckroat was one of the marquee rookies on Tour last season following a storied amateur career, and he showed flashes with a runner-up and four top-10 finishes. He also dealt with inconsistency with 17 cuts made and 15 missed cuts. His ball-striking ability shows signs of promise as he was 34th in strokes-gained off-the-tee and also gained shots on approach. A top-10 at the U.S. Open shows that his game holds up against difficult setups and tough competition, but the lack of an elite skill currently leaves the question of if he'll be able to take a major step forward in his sophomore campaign. Eckroat fired a nine-under 63 in the final round to win the World Wide Technology Championship by one stroke.
ANALYSIS
It was a very compact leaderboard going into Sunday and someone was bound to shoot a round like this to take all the marbles. Eckroat was the man for the job carding 11 birdies in the final round to take his second PGA Tour win of 2024. Apart from a sixth at the Wyndham Championship, Eckroat hadn't finished in the top-10 since that first career win at the Cognizant Classic at PGA National in early March. This certainly gives this talented ball-striker some positive momentum going into 2025. Eckroat is not listed in the field for the Butterfield Bermuda Championship next week.
