The Buccaneers released Pope (undisclosed) from injured reserve with an injury settlement, independent NFL journalist Aaron Wilson reports.
ANALYSIS
It's unclear what is ailing Pope, but when he is healthy, he will be eligible to join a new team for the 2021 campaign. The 27-year-old has amassed 37 carries for 140 rushing yards since joining the NFL in 2016.

Pope joined the Chargers' practice squad in late November and was eventually elevated to the 53-man roster two weeks later, but the 25-year-old never actually saw time on the field. He's firmly behind Detrez Newsome as the No. 4 back on the depth chart currently, but an extended Melvin Gordon holdout might help Pope's chances at beginning the season with the Chargers.
Pope played just one game last season for the Jets before being released mid-season. The Texans signed him to their practice squad last November and locked him up to a reserve/future contract. The D'Onta Foreman (Achilles) opens up all kinds of possibility in the Texans backfield. Pope flashed in the first preseason game, including a 34-yard catch, putting him on the map. He and Tyler Ervin are similar in build, so it might come down to whichever one has the better preseason.
Pope only appeared in three games for the Seahawks last season, rushing for 43 yards on 11 attempts. He'll now be one of at least 10 running backs in training camp for the Seahawks vying for a reserve role on the depth chart. He ended last season on injured reserve due to an undisclosed ankle injury, which could factor into his odds of making the 53-man roster. Even if he lands a roster spot, it seems unlikely that he'll be a fantasy producer in 2017.
Pope was named the FCS Running Back of the Year last season, leading Jacksonville State to the FCS title game. He rushed for 1,788 yards, averaging an FCS-leading 8.2 yards per carry. He ran a 4.55 40 at his Pro Day. An undrafted free agent, Pope will have to beat out a couple of drafted rookies to make the team. He can also return kicks, though, so perhaps that will work in his favor.

The Buccaneers will host Pope for a tryout Friday.
ANALYSIS
Pope played in six games with the Chargers last season, most notably compiling 15 total touches for 95 yards in Week 8 in what was essentially an emergency appearance with a number of running backs injured. If the veteran back was to make the roster, it'd likely be as a special-teams player.
