The Cardinals tried out Davis on Monday, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports.

Davis appears to be healthy once again after leaving in the first half of the Patriots' regular-season finale against Miami with a shoulder injury. The 28-year-old safety played five games between three teams (Cincinnati, Indianapolis and New England) last season, but he never registered a single defensive statistic over 35 total snaps.

Davis heads to Washington for his fifth NFL season, after starting 41 of 48 games in four seasons with the Steelers. Shoulder surgery ended his 2019 campaign after a lone appearance, but he should be healthy this summer in plenty of time to compete for a starting job with his new team. If he does win the job, Davis likely will handle a lot of the deep coverage responsibilities, considering Washington already has a stud box safety in Landon Collins. The free safety role isn't likely to provide a ton of tackle opportunities, but Davis could find himself picking off some passes if the Washington pass rush plays up to its potential.

The former Maryland cornerback has settled in as a three-down safety for Pittsburgh, and with his big workload comes mainstream IDP utility even though Davis hasn't stood out in any regard. There's a chance he makes strides in both real life and IDP terms this year, though, as he's only 25 and heads into his third year as a full-time starter. A 90-tackle pace over 16 games makes sense, and as a former cornerback with elite athleticism there's reason for optimism regarding his interception upside, particularly with Pittsburgh's pass rush emerging as one of the league's best.

Davis has done his very best to make Steelers fans forget Troy Polamalu, following up an impressive rookie campaign with 92 tackles, three interceptions, a forced fumble and a sack last season. The signing of Morgan Burnett has raised questions about who will play strong safety and who will play free safety, but Davis will still have fantasy value as part of a revamped defensive unit that finished among the leaders in passing yards allowed, total yards allowed, and points allowed in 2017.

Davis probably has more upside than most of the other defensive backs in this range. A corner/safety tweener out of Maryland last year, Davis fell to the second round due to an uneven skill set relative to his top-shelf athleticism. The Steelers gave him a shot at safety, and the results were generally encouraging. Playing 740 defensive snaps, Davis finished his rookie year with 70 tackles despite the position switch, giving reason to hope for 90-plus tackles if he holds on to a three-down role for the duration of 2017. An offseason shoulder surgery for Davis means his health should be monitored.

The Steelers have been searching for an every down strong safety since Troy Polamalu retired, and will give their second round draft pick an opportunity to compete with underachieving Shamarko Thomas for the starting job. Even if Davis wins the job, there are safer IDP options available, but fantasy owners should keep a watchful eye on the rookie to see how he performs.
