Nall returns for his third year with the Bears after signing as an exclusive-rights free agent. After seeing just 75 snaps and three rushing attempts last year when the Chicago backfield had very little depth after losing Tarik Cohen to injury, it showed that the coaching staff wasn't very confident in using him extensively. Now with Cohen returning and Damien Williams and sixth-round draft choice Khalil Herbert added to the backfield to work along with David Montgomery, the Bears ended up waiving Nall at the end of the preseason. Even if he returns, he'll mostly play special teams.
Nall played just eight snaps on offense in 2019, his rookie season, while carrying the football twice for eight yards, though he was a regular on special teams in each game after first being active in Week 10. At 6-foot-2, 232 pounds, he ran a 4.58 40-yard-dash time at the combine while posting 67th percentile agility and 55th percentile explosiveness, so he has an impressive athletic profile. There could be an opportunity ahead with David Montgomery nursing a groin injury, but it isn't clear that the Bears view Nall as a serious option for regular carries, so it may be Tarik Cohen, Cordarrelle Patterson or Artavis Pierce picking up the backfield slack instead.
Nall might not have a position now, but guys as productive as him with his athletic profile usually develop at the pro level with time, and in Chicago he could have a profitable eventual role either as a runner or tight end. His background is actually quite similar to that of Trey Burton, who's expected to produce as a tight end this year for the Bears. Like Burton, Nall faces a potential move to tight end due to his build, but he's always been a runner by trade. Burton played a sort of QB/RB/WR hybrid at Florida, while Nall was a workhorse running back at Oregon State, totaling 2,216 yards (5.8 YPC) and 24 touchdowns over the last 30 games, adding 56 receptions for 563 yards and four touchdowns. Nall's athleticism is vaguely promising, especially by tight end standards, as he stands at 6-foot-2, 232 pounds with a 4.58-second 40 and 11.11 agility score.

Trying out for Broncos

Nall has a tryout scheduled with the Broncos this week, Mike Klis of Denver 9News reports.
ANALYSIS
Nall appeared in 33 games with the Bears from 2019 through 2021. The fullback logged six rushing attempts over that span and caught nine of 10 targets, with one of the receptions going for a touchdown. If signed, Nall would compete with Michael Burton for a roster spot in camp.
