Melvin appeared in 10 games for the Panthers last season, registering 16 tackles. At 32 years old, Melvin is expected to provide veteran depth to Carolina's cornerback group in 2022.
Melvin was signed by the Panthers this offseason after opting out of the 2020 campaign. The last time he played, 31-year-old tallied a career-high 68 tackles in 13 games for the Lions. In Carolina, Melvin is expected to compete with Donte Jackson, A.J. Bouye and Troy Pride for the starting cornerback job opposite rookie first-rounder Jaycee Horn.
Melvin joined the Lions on a one-year deal this offseason and operated as the starting cornerback opposite Darius Slay during the preseason. As someone who was on pace to notch over 60 tackles and double-digit pass breakups in two of the past three seasons, Melvin could be a quality source of production among cornerbacks behind a suddenly stacked Lions defensive front.
After putting up 13 passes defensed and three interceptions in just 10 games with the Colts during his 2017 campaign, the cornerback-needy Raiders elected to sign Melvin to a one-year deal worth $6.5 million this offseason. The injury-prone 28-year-old has never played a full season, but he should be the clear-cut starter at cornerback across from 2017 first-rounder Gareon Conley as Oakland's secondary looks to improve upon last year's unit that ranked 26th in passing defense.
A 2013 UDFA, Melvin surprisingly started two games in the 2014 regular season and another two in the playoffs, as the Baltimore secondary was decimated by injuries. Melvin held his own until the divisional round of the playoffs, where he was consistently picked on by Tom Brady. Following the ugly performance, Melvin will likely need to compete for a roster spot.
The second-year pro slots in as a depth cornerback for the Bucs.

Melvin is expected to be added to the Panthers' roster for Sunday's game against the Saints and see playing time at both outside and nickel corenerback, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Melvin just signed with Carolina's practice squad Friday, but the versatile veteran is expected to play a prominent role with his new team right off the bat. The Panthers remain without A.J. Bouye (suspension) and Troy Pride (knee) on the back end, necessitating the need to bring Melvin in for depth.
