Robinson informed the Saints of his decision to retire Tuesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Robinson will head into retirement after 11 seasons in the NFL and with a Super Bowl title in hand. The 2020 first-round pick will be best remembered for two key highlights during the Eagles' path to the Super Bowl LII championship. Robinson had a 50-yard pick-six in the 2017 NFL Championship Game, and he batted down Tom Brady's final attempt at a Hail Mary in the Eagle's Super Bowl win over New England.

Entering the third year of his second stint with New Orleans, Robinson has yet to top 250 snaps in any year since returning to the Bayou. However, that should change in 2021 without Janoris Jenkins on the squad anymore. While Robinson probably won't be an every-down player, the veteran seems poised to handle a sizable role at outside cornerback opposite Marshon Lattimore, though that may depend on how quickly third-round rookie Paulson Adebo can acclimate to the pro game.
Robinson has always possessed the talent, and has often delivered as a very good starting cornerback in the NFL, but much of his past six seasons have been marred by injury. In 2013 he tore his patellar tendon and missed 14 games, 2016 brought a concussion, knee and groin injuries that amounted to nine scratches, and last year he broke his left ankle Sept. 23 and was forced to sit out the remainder of the season. With Marshon Lattimore and Eli Apple in place as the No. 1 and No. 2 corners, Robinson is no longer being counted on for starter reps. He's more of a nickelback or rotational veteran player at this point, providing depth for a defense that is looking to improve upon a 29th-place finish in pass defense from last season.
A 2010 first-round pick by the Saints, Robinson was much maligned during his five seasons in New Orleans. Robinson returned to his first NFL home this offseason after pit stops in San Diego, Indianapolis and Philadelphia. In the latter locale, he was a key contributor in the Eagles' march to a victory in Super Bowl LII, earning 69 percent of the defensive snaps while playing in every game during the season. His stat line included 47 tackles and four interceptions. Back in New Orleans, however, Robinson will likely start the year behind Marshon Lattimore and Ken Crawley on the cornerback depth chart and will need to beat out fellow Florida State product P.J. Williams for the nickel cornerback job in order to make an meaningful impact in most IDP leagues.
After an injury-injury plagued 2016 in which he played in only one game after the Colts’ Week Ten bye, Robinson signed with Philadelphia in hopes of bolstering one of the NFL’s weaker secondaries. He will start at least until 2017 second-round pick Sidney Jones recovers from his Achilles injury, and if healthy, could be in line for a 40 to 50 tackle season.
After being signed away from the Saints, Robinson will immediately be in the mix for playing time and will probably battle with rookie Craig Mager for nickel corner snaps in 2015.
Robinson missed all of the 2013 season with a knee injury. In 2012, Robinson had a breakout fantasy year, compiling 63 tackles, 18 pass defenses and three interceptions as a starter for the Saints, Robinson's pre-injury production, however, was likely the result of opposing quarterbacks continuously targeted him in coverage. Due to the high volume of passes thrown his way, Robinson had ample opportunity to post career-highs in both tackles and passes defended. With incumbent Corey White still around and the Saints adding Stanley Jean-Baptiste through the draft this offseason, Robinson will likely face still competition to reclaim his starting cornerback position and likely an uphill battle to come anywhere near matching his 2012 fantasy production.
Robinson had a breakout fantasy year in 2013, if only because opposing quarterbacks continuously targeted him in coverage. Due to the high volume of passes thrown his way, Robinson had ample opportunity to post career-highs in both tackles and passes defended. However, with the Saints signing of Keenan Lewis this offseason, Robinson will likely be pushed to a nickel position, significantly curtailing his fantasy value.
Robinson is expected to start at cornerback for the Saints. Last year, Robinson recorded four interceptions in 15 games. While he isn't a great corner, he could be a sneaky IDP play as he should receive plenty of opportunities to get his hands on passes with opposing quarterbacks avoiding CB Jabari Greer on the other side of the field.
Robinson had his ups-and-downs in his rookie campaign but proved to be a serviceable cornerback when thrown into the fire as injuries decimated the Saints' secondary. Yet, if both Jabari Green and Tracy Porter are healthy, Robinson will likely assume responsibilities as the team's third cornerback and holds only marginal fantasy value in IDP leagues.
The Saints drafted Robinson with their first round pick in this year's NFL Draft. Some questioned the pick initially with the team seemingly set at the cornerback position for the first time in years. However, with the announcement that Malcolm Jenkins will begin the transition from corner to free safety, the skeptics have been quieted for the time being. Nevertheless, Robinson will likely not see much action in his first year as a pro.
