Marqise Lee

Slated to be the team's No. 1 wideout last summer, Lee tore his ACL in August and missed the entire 2018 season. He then opened 2019 training camp on the PUP list and didn't come off until mid-August, leaving his status for Week 1 in serious question. At 6-0, 196, and with 4.52 40 speed, Lee's physical specs are merely average, but he's uncannily quick and athletic - his 4.01-second shuttle time, 38-inch vertical jump and 127-inch broad jump are all impressive. Lee gets a quarterback upgrade from Blake Bortles to Nick Foles, but not having practice time this spring and for much of the summer could hurt their rapport. Even so, he should eventually be a candidate to start alongside Dede Westbrook, with D.J. Chark, Chris Conley and Keelan Cole also in the mix for snaps.

With Allen Robinson in Chicago and Allen Hurns in Dallas, Lee appeared primed to serve as the Jaguars', dare we say it, marquee wideout, especially after signing a four-year deal with $16.5 million in guarantees. Lee was barely passable last year in a below-average offense - 12.5 YPC and 7.3 YPT, one catch of 40-plus yards on 96 targets - and that was with Robinson missing virtually the entire year. At 6-0, 196, and running a 4.52 40, Lee looks unremarkable, but he's exceptionally quick and athletic - his combine numbers for broad jump, vertical and shuttle time graded out as elite. Unfortunately, Lee will have to wait until 2019 to show off his skills again, after suffering a season-ending knee injury during the preseason.

While the Jaguars' passing-game output as a whole dropped off a cliff, somehow Lee had a breakout season. Finally healthy after two injury-hampered campaigns, Lee played all 16 games and managed a respectable 13.5 YPC and 8.1 YPT. That's all the more respectable when you consider Blake Bortles' meager 6.2 YPA and Allen Robinson's paltry 5.8 YPT. At 6-0, 196, Lee has average size, and his 4.52 40 at the Combine was below par for all but the biggest receivers in the league. But Lee is unusually quick and athletic, accelerates to full speed quickly, and has a 38-inch vertical leap. Lee scored only three times, thanks to only nine red-zone targets, and Robinson and Allen Hurns will be back, but if Bortles can approach something similar to his passable 2015 level, Lee should be one of the prime beneficiaries. Unfortunately, Bortles has done nothing to inspire confidence during training camp or the preseason, leaving himself with a short leash entering Week 1.

Injuries have derailed the former USC star's first two years, but he reported to the team's offseason program healthy and has finally had a chance to work with quarterback Blake Bortles extensively in the offseason. With Allen Robinson emerging as a full-blown star and Allen Hurns a capable playmaker on the other side, Lee enters the year as the team's No. 3 receiver. But the Jaguars threw the ball 607 times (12th), and even more frequently in the red zone, so there's enough opportunity to go around, especially given the lack of depth beyond Lee at the position.

With Justin Blackmon's reinstatement bid falling short in May, and Cecil Shorts plying his trade in Houston, Lee will have another chance for a significant role in Year 2. Lee's rookie year wasn't especially noteworthy, but he was playing in the 31st-ranked passing game both in terms of total yards and efficiency. He also missed three full games and parts of others with an ankle injury that has since healed. At 6-0, 192, Lee has only average size, and his timed 4.52 40 is barely adequate for a receiver with his frame. But Lee is exceptionally nimble, accelerates to top speed quickly, is a good route runner and has strong ball skills. He'll likely start opposite Allen Robinson, though Allen Hurns and tight-end Julius Thomas will also see targets.

Taken with the 39th overall pick, Lee has as good chance to start opposite Cecil Shorts right out of the gate. At 6-0, 192, Lee has only average size, and his timed 4.52 40 is merely passable in a receiver with his frame. But Lee has great quickness and acceleration, excellent vision and good route-running skills. He’s also got good eye-hand coordination and strong ball skills. With the addition of Lee, Shorts and fellow second-rounder Allen Robinson, the Jaguars are suddenly deep at wide receiver, and they’ll eventually be breaking in a rookie quarterback. But Lee should get every chance to play himself into a significant role.
