Rest-of-Season Projections
Retiring after playoffs
Alexander announced Monday that he intends to retire from the NFL, Leo Roth and Ryan Miller of the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle report.
ANALYSIS
Alexander will continue to start in Buffalo's linebacker corps during the team's playoff run, but he won't return for the 2020 season. The veteran linebacker recorded 55 tackles (35 solo), two sacks and nine defended passes across 16 regular-season contests in 2019, and he'll now turn his attention to Saturday's wild-card matchup against the Texans.

With Tom Brady on to Tampa Bay, the Bills will take aim at the AFC East title. Their chances rest largely on the trajectory of QB Josh Allen.
With the top three receivers expected to go within a few picks of each other, Henry Ruggs is a good bet to go off the board first.

Though Alexander turns 36 at the end of May, the linebacker's play has yet to taper off. The 6-1, 245-pounder recorded 68 tackles, 6.5 sacks, two interceptions, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery in 2018 and the Bills could really use his veteran leadership with defensive tackle Kyle Williams having retired. Alexander had some big IDP performances down the stretch last season after Matt Milano suffered a broken leg, though he'll likely take on a more restricted play count when the linebacking corps is at full strength. The Bills have preferred to use Alexander in a hybrid role that creates opportunities for him to rush the passer.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Ready if called upon
Alexander, who retired following the Bills' exit from the playoffs in January, recently expressed on the Pat McAfee Show that he's ready to return if the team needs him at some point during the coming season. "I'm ready. I'm working. You never know," Alexander said.
ANALYSIS
Alexander hung up his cleats after 10 NFL seasons after Buffalo's wild-card loss to the Texans, with the final four years of his career having been played in Western New York. The 37-year-old remained reasonably productive in his final season, suiting up for all 16 games for the sixth consecutive campaign and contributing 55 tackles, two sacks, nine defensed passes and a forced fumble. Alexander spoke in the context of a midseason comeback as opposed to joining the team for all of 2020, but with the possibility of plenty of COVID-19-related multi-week absences this season, it's very conceivable the durable veteran gets a call at some point if he's indeed serious about playing again.
