Benkert was cut from the 49ers' practice squad Tuesday, per his personal Twitter account.
ANALYSIS
Benkert will once again hit the open market after a month-long stint with the 49ers' practice squad. The undrafted product out of Virginia has spent time with the Packers, Falcons and 49ers, but he'll likely have to look for a new opportunity elsewhere.

2019 Fantasy Outlook
Benkert had a rough go of it during his 2018 preseason audition, completing 43.8 percent of his passes, with 5.4 yards per attempt and a 0:4 TD:INT ratio. Still, the Falcons coaching staff saw something beneath the surface that Benkert brought to the table, and decided to offer the former Virginia standout a spot on the practice squad. Benkert evidently grew from that experience, appearing much more poised in his second go-round while competing against the Broncos in the 2019 Hall of Fame Game -- completing 55.9 percent of his attempts for 185 yards and a touchdown. Unfortunately, having suffered a serious toe injury during that contest and since being ruled out for half of the regular season with an injured reserve designation, 2019 doesn't project to be a breakthrough year for Benkert. However, if he rebounds well from the injury and continues to develop his understanding of the playbook, there is a chance he's Atlanta's backup quarterback headed into 2020.

ANALYSIS
Benkert saw the first two snaps of his NFL career during the Packers' blowout win over the Bears in Week 14. The 27-year-old signal-caller has drawn interest from teams in need of veteran depth this offseason, including a workout with fellow AFC South opponent Houston earlier this August. Benkert's value could continue to rise as teams look for serviceable replacements following the injuries that inevitably pile up throughout the regular season.
