Rest-of-Season Projections
Let go on cutdown day
The Chiefs released Blanton on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Blanton spent time on Kansas City's practice squad down the stretch of last season after parting ways with the Rams in November. The 27-year-old never appeared in a game for the Chiefs in 2022, and he couldn't manage to carve out a role during his first preseason with the team. Blanton appeared in 15 games with the Rams from 2021 to 2022, catching six of nine targets for 72 yards.

Primarily a blocking tight end, Blanton made it off the practice squad Week 7 but didn't produce any meaningful fantasy production until the playoffs, when he caught a touchdown in the divisional round and snagged all five targets for 57 yards in the NFC Championship Game. Tyler Higbee is coming off an MCL sprain, so Blanton and fellow tight end Brycen Hopkins could be leaned upon more heavily at the start of the season as Higbee works his way into playing shape.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Confirmed starter for Super Bowl
The Rams placed Tyler Higbee on injured reserve due to a knee injury Friday, opening up the opportunity for Blanton to work as the starting tight end in Sunday's Super Bowl against the Bengals.
ANALYSIS
Higbee suffered the knee injury early in the NFC Championship Game, and Blanton was solid in relief, catching all five of his targets for 57 yards. The backup tight end showed a nice rapport with quarterback Matthew Stafford and should be an understated yet important piece of Los Angeles' passing attack in place of Higbee, who was unable to recover in time to play despite having an extra week off between games.
