Retirement on horizon
OTSan Francisco 49ers
April 25, 2020
Staley is expected to retire in the coming days due to health concerns, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 35-year-old Staley endured a broken fibula and broken finger that limited him to seven regular-season games in 2019, and he capped off the difficult campaign with a hand injury in Super Bowl LIV. Therefore, one doesn't have to look too far into the past to understand how the long-time 49er arrived at his decision. Wagoner reports Staley had kept the team informed of his plans in the days leading up to the draft, leading San Francisco to trade a 2020 fifth-round pick and 2021 third-round selection to the Redskins for disgruntled left tackle Trent Williams on Saturday.
